Warning: wall of text incoming

I've been meaning to do this for a while.

What do I mean by "a reflection"? well, I want to reflect on the comics and art (but mostly comics) that I've done throughout my time here on DA.

First up is the first comic I posted, my :iconpieceofmind--oct: audition

Uh... well I've come a long way haven't I? From the too-small-to-read to text to the abhorrent lining that was (if I recall correctly) done completely with a mouse while eyeballing it from a loose sketch on a piece of lined paper, this is very obviously my first attempt. Jeeze, even looking back at the old versions of my characters is cringe worthy. I don't really think I have much more to say about this, the less I have to remember the better XI

next up is the round 1 comic for Piece of Mind OCT.

welp. It's uh... it's better than the audition comic I guess. At least with this one I didn't make the same mistake of lining with no sketched guide. Unfortunately, this and my Sanctum round 1 comic point out a glaring flaw that seems to continually catch me: the fact that I can't seem to get a decent comic finished in a deadline for crap. Halfway through, the lining stops, which can be attributed to my own laziness and bad use of time I suppose. Even the use of computer entered text stops on the last page XI And oh god that ending. I distinctly remember having a more rounded out ending in mind, but not enough time to do it. So I ended up cramming what was essentially half a page into one panel. alright let's move on, quickly, before I get sucked into the void of agony that was this comic.

Audition comic for :iconthedivideoct:

Well... Yes. This comic. A kinda-marked improvement over my piece of mind stuff but that's not going to stop me from disliking it regardless. Most of the beginning was intended to be a large-scale fight scene with plenty of shadow-mongers and valhallans running around killing each other, but that obviously wasn't the case. I'm not even sure why I didn't manage to do it either (although, knowing me, it was probably deadline related). There were quite a few off model moments as well, specifically on page 5, when I FORGOT PART OF THE BACKGROUND FOR ONE PANEL. Also to note was the fact that I did particularly badly expressing the Wartotem's personality, which angers me, considering he's one of my oldest characters. I shouldn't have gotten him wrong like that.

Audition comic for :iconroulettecityoct:

OH GOD. This abomination. I've come to think of this as some of my absolute worst work. I can't even begin to note how many issues there were with this comic, and the piss poor characterization (or complete lack thereof) of Melody didn't help matters. To tell the truth, this was actually a huge compression of the original story into a single 3-page comic. the original audition was about 20 pages long, actually gave Melody a speaking role and fleshed out both Myre and Melody's personalities and showed their relationship with each other, but due to time constraints I couldn't even begin to act on the original plan. Ugh, please for the love of god let's just forget this comic ever happened.

Audition comic for :iconsanctum-oct:

Well, here we go. The saving grace after the horror that was roulette city. I consider the audition comic for sanctum to be my best work to this point, despite a few flaws in it. The first flaw is the handwriting. which is just a flaw of me in general. considering my handwriting is pretty abhorrent. Another flaw, although this is more of a personal issue, is page 4 in it's entirety. I'm not sure why but I just hate page 4 with a burning passion. The second and third pages should have been lined with ink like the rest of the pages were, and I should have balanced my time better to shade pages 2-8. Otherwise, I'd have to say that I'm really kind of content with how this comic came out. sure, it lacks the lining and coloring that I wanted to do originally, but hey, it is ME we're talking about here.

Round 1 comic for Sanctum OCT

And we come to a close with this comic. My round 1 for sanctum wasn't nearly as up-to-scratch as I would have liked, and you can see that starting from page 5, where the lining and shading stops. In all honesty, the reason was just procrastination. Completely and totally. I procrastinated heavily and didn't use my time wisely, which was ultimately my downfall. Included in this issue was the size of the text, an issue I though I had got past nearly two years prior with the Piece of Mind audition. All in all, I don't like it nearly as much as my audition comic.

So yeah. there we go, a big reflection on all the comics I've done so far. This took a while XI. I realize that my biggest shortcoming is my use of time. I've proven that I'm not really proficient at managing my time well during the first round of an oct, and so I will work towards bettering myself on this issue. Another issue is the text-to-page-size-ratio I seem to have so... time to bump the text up to 184 px :iconohgodwhyplz:
